Borders Abbeys Way walking holidays
Historic abbeys and the southern Scottish lowlands
Highlights
An easy yet varied circular walking holiday through the Scottish Borders, visiting many wonderful ancient abbeys and castles along the way.
The Borders Abbeys Way is a gentle circular walking trail in southern Scotland which links the ruined abbeys of Jedburgh, Melrose, Dryburgh and Kelso. It also includes the handsome Roxburghshire town of Hawick and the county town of Selkirk.
The pace of life is somewhat slower in the Borders, allowing the visitor to relax and enjoy walking through a countryside steeped in history. The rural nature of this area gives you good opportunities to observe the local wildlife, with the wildflowers being particularly enjoyable in the spring. For many the walk is also seen as a pilgrimage trail.
Scenery includes substantial sections alongside the rivers Tweed and Teviot, as well as farmland landscapes and some higher ground that affords views of the Eildon Hills.
