Isle of Wight Coast Path

Trace the coastline around England's largest island

Highlights

  • Charming and peaceful Newtown Creek nature reserve
  • Quirky Ventnor - the Victorian town on a slope with its independent shops
  • Spectacular views of chalk cliffs on the south coast
  • Cowes - famed for its sailing regatta and maritime history
  • Osborne House - Queen Victoria's favourite summer residence
  • Iconic viewpoint of the Needles lighthouse

The route of the Isle of Wight Coast Path provides a fantastic way to explore the island’s diversity of landscapes, from cliffs with spectacular sea views to beaches, wetlands, rivers and woodland.

The Isle of Wight’s 71-mile coastal footpath visits all the main beaches and seaside towns, together with some amazing unspoilt estuaries and countryside.

From the iconic landscape of the Needles in the west of the island to the atmospheric Bembridge Harbour with its quirky houseboats and coastal birdlife in the east, the Isle of Wight Coast Path takes you through a varied and beautiful landscape showcasing the island’s diverse geography and history.

Be prepared to walk an extra mile or so each day, as you may find it irresistible to explore the beaches, rock pools and other natural and historical features along the way. And the island’s southerly location and more temperate climate means the walking season is longer here, making it the ideal place for an early spring or autumn break.
