Hadrian’s Wall Path
Coast to coast along the Roman Empire's northern frontier
Highlights
The Hadrian’s Wall Path takes you coast to coast along the most famous frontier between Roman Britain and the northern Caledonian tribes.
This walk follows the course of northern Europe’s largest surviving Roman monument and the northern boundary of the empire overseen by Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. Opened as a trail in 2003, it is the first UK national trail to follow a route that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Hadrian’s Wall Path walk is truly unique. Not only do you walk through wild and beautiful English countryside, you also take a journey through nearly two thousand years of British history, encountering remains and forts of this famous landmark along the way.
Over the course of its 86 miles, Hadrian’s Wall Path provides a wealth of different landscapes, numerous historical sites, charming villages, cosy pubs and friendly northern English hospitality. A “must do” trail for any hiker. For those short on time or just wanting to focus on the finest archaeological sites, our Hadrian’s Wall Highlights itinerary is ideal.
