Pennine Way
Take the high route along the spine of northern England
Highlights
Pennine Way, this iconic walking holiday takes you over some of the most dramatic and wild countryside in England from Edale in the Derbyshire Peak District to the Scottish Lowlands.
The Pennine Way was England’s first national trail when it opened in 1965 and for many long distance walkers it is a “must do”, in part because of the challenge created by a route that traverses exposed moorland where weather and walking conditions can be tough. Yet the sense of achievement when arriving at the end of the trail spurs on many to undertake the walk each year.
Over the course of its 268 miles, the route passes through the national parks of the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland, plus the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Hikers will encounter landscapes of heathery moorland, dramatic limestone and granite outcrops, and lush green valleys criss-crossed with drystone walls, plus the Cheviot Hills, one of the remotest parts of England.
Historic locations on the trail include: Kinder Scout, site of the 1932 Mass Trespass that saw hundreds of people demonstrate for the right to access the countryside; the landscape near Haworth that inspired Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights; and the 17th century Tan Hill Inn, Britain’s highest pub. Dotted along the route are plenty of attractive and welcoming towns and villages with good accommodation, pubs, cafes and restaurants to keep you sustained on your journey.

It was all spot on. All the accommodation was of a high quality and convenient to the walk - which was something I had been particularly concerned about before I went. I was offered great customer service by everybody.
