Offa’s Dyke Path
A walk along the English-Welsh border
Highlights
Offa’s Dyke Path allows you to walk in the footsteps of the 8th century King Offa as you traverse the varied landscape of the English-Welsh border from the Severn Estuary to the coast of North Wales.
Offa’s Dyke Path is one of the most attractive and varied of the UK’s long-distance paths. Over the course of its 177 miles, this national trail crosses all manner of landscapes, including high moorland, rugged hills, fertile river valleys, woodland and rolling farmland. For over half its length the route keeps company with Offa’s famous dyke, built by the Mercian king to defend his territory and still visible in many places.
As it traverses the length of Wales the trail runs parallel to the English border, crisscrossing it over 20 times and in the process passing through one national park (Brecon Beacons) and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Wye Valley, Shropshire Hills, and the Clwydian Range/Dee Valley).
In addition to the beautiful and changing landscape, the walk is strewn with castles and hillforts redolent of centuries of border skirmishes, as well as ancient abbeys, historic churches and pretty rural towns and villages. A trail that really does showcase everything that’s best about walking in the UK.

This is the second time I have used Discovery Travel and you have provided excellent support on both occasions. Holiday accommodation was all good and some were outstanding. Evening meals all worked well.
