Pembrokeshire Coast Path

Acclaimed as one of the best long distance walks in the UK, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path offers rich history and culture amid dramatic clifftop scenery and sweeping beaches.

For many, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path offers the best coastline walking in the UK – National Geographic magazine voted it “one of the best places in the world to visit”. Established in 1970 and now an official national trail, over the course of the walk it passes no less than 54 beaches and 14 harbours and scenery ranges from tidal estuaries, to rugged headlands, secluded coves and golden strands.  Tucked away in south west Wales, Pembrokeshire benefits from a remoteness which brings a tranquillity to the area and often means less crowded beaches than elsewhere in the UK.

The route is dotted with pretty seaside towns and fishing ports such as colourful Tenby and sheltered Porthgain. History is never far away, whether it’s the magnificent Norman castles of Pembroke and Manorbier, the remains of megalithic burial tombs or the historic shrine of St Davids Cathedral.

For nature lovers, wildlife abounds along the trail: in spring and early summer wild flowers are in abundance and large numbers of breeding birds can be seen, especially around the islands of Skomer and Skokholm famed for their puffins. Late summer and autumn is good for seeing migrating birds and seal pups.
