Highlights
The South Downs Way is an accessible trail along chalk grassland offering dramatic views, taking in historic sites, towns and villages along the way.
This walk takes you along the chalk downlands of the south of England, starting from the historic city of Winchester, ancient seat of King Alfred.
Along the way you will encounter Iron Age sites, English woodland and fields, while taking in views and glimpses of the English Channel – and the Isle of Wight beyond.
The South Downs Way is an opportunity to experience some far reaching views and tranquillity along one of England’s most accessible long-distance paths along the chalk ridge that runs all the way to the dramatic cliffs of Beachy Head.
