Yorkshire Wolds Way

A tranquil walking holiday through the Yorkshire Wolds and its wonderful landscape of rolling chalk hills and valleys, ending at the charming seaside town of Filey.

The Wolds Way meanders through one of the quieter corners of rural northern England, following country tracks and footpaths through a scene of gently rolling chalk hills, wide open vistas and secluded valleys.

One of England’s National Trails, opened in 1982, the walking is relatively undemanding on this well-signposted trail. History looms large in the area, from the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy to the handsome farmhouses that dot the route, evidence of the farming wealth that the area has enjoyed and that continues to this day.  At West Heslerton, the vestiges of the old social order are apparent in a village still entirely owned by one of the agricultural estates.

There is a rich variety of plant and wildlife as you walk through pretty villages and small market towns. Approaching the traditional seaside town of Filey, the latter stages of the walk afford fine views across the Vale of Pickering to the North Yorkshire Moors before concluding on the sandy shores of the North Sea.
